On Saturday 14th August between 11am – 5pm the Ardrossan Community Development Trust (ACDT) will be running and organising a Community Engagement Day.
The purpose of the event is to discuss the intended community regeneration proposals that have recently been published via various local sources. The ACDT and all project partners would like to present these ideas to the widespread community and gather additional feedback from the people who live in the town.
These plans are not set in stone and from the additional feedback provided by the community plans can be firmed up before being taken into development.
The proposed plans for Ardrossan South Beach comes from the charette conducted by “Our Place” in relation to the identified needs of the town and the community.
Project partners who will be available on the day are:
Ardrossan Community Development Trust Directors – available to answer any questions and provide information to the public
Sustrans – Ardrossan Connections Project
Wave Particle – Ardrossan Deck Chairs Project
Mike Hyatt Architects – South beach promenade project
North Ayrshire Council locality and regeneration team – All projects
On the day we are looking for as many members of the Ardrossan community to pop along and see the proposed plans for the area. This includes marking out the areas in chalk with descriptions of what they would see in these areas.
Our wider project partners will also be in attendance so you can have a chance to pick the brains of the experts that we are working with to further develop the area and ask any questions or raise any concerns that you may have.
Every household in the Ardrossan postcode will received literature delivered through their door regarding the community engagement day. The flyers will have QR codes and links to this webpage in order to provide and gather feedback.
We are also planning on local radio adverts and social media posts in relation to the community engagement day, as we would like the event as well attended as possible. The more voices and feedback we can gather will enable Ardrossan Trust and its project partners to better deliver the needs of the Ardrossan Community.
You can keep up to date with all projects and plans by following us on Facebook and Twitter by using the links below.
These partners include, Sustrans who are custodians of the National Cycle Network, a UK-wide network of traffic-free paths for everyone, connecting cities, towns and countryside, loved by the communities they serve. Ardrossan Connections will be hosting a few stations with different activities for you to meet the project team, see how the project is progressing, share design ideas and some stories you have of Ardrossan. You can find out more about the project on the Ardrossan Connections Website
WAVEparticle who were set up in 2006 to support and direct a team approach to urban regeneration arts projects, public art commissions and various levels of creative consultation. It was WAVEparticle who developed the deckchair project and the designs for the chairs that will be situated on South Beach Promenade. This gives you an opportunity to pop along, grab a deckchair, put your feet up and have a relaxed conversation with Peter McCaughey, Director and lead creative consultant of the company.
There will be 50 deckchairs ready for the engagement day, with another 50 to follow over the course of the coming months.
Mike Hyatt Architects
Representatives of Mike Hyatt Architects will also be in attendance. Established in 2000, and from the start, their ethos has focused on innovation, quality and collaboration with communities, clients, design teams, artists and constructors. Members of the team will deliver information regarding the South Beach Regeneration programme. This will give you a chance to hear the plans, discuss the plans and also visualise how the promenade could look.
NAC Locality & Regeneration
Members of North Ayrshire Councils Locality & Regeneration team will also be on hand to discuss how the regeneration brings positive change to the area and also answer any questions that you may have regarding the wider regeneration proposals that take into account our local community.
On the day the community mobile unit will be present, allowing everyone to get a better idea of the proposals with information in print, online and video available on the day.
We will also have access to a couple of Wheelers for ease of access to the beach. This is a very exciting project and means that everyone can have access to the beach along the promenade. No matter the persons disability, we believe that access to the sand and the sea brings many benefits to families in our community.
This is just the start of an inclusion for all project that will see more families access Ardrossan South Beach for a day out or a stroll along the beach.
You can also be one of the first to experience the new Deck Chairs that will be situated on the Promenade.
For larger community groups who are hoping to come along you can reserve 5+ Deck Chairs for use on the day by using the form below.
Also on the day The Ardrossan Community Sports Hub will be delivering a FREE family friendly boot camp at 12 noon and again at 13:30, each lasting around 30 minutes. This should allow enough time for you to check out the project plans while the kids break a sweat!
