South Beach Crazy Golf Relaunch

The restoration involved repairing the cement structures, removing accumulated dirt and old paint, and applying a new screed and vibrant, durable paint finish. Additionally, the design includes the installation of 2.4-metre brightly coloured flagpoles to enhance the visual appeal of the course
Nostalgic Costal Heritage

The crazy golf course at Ardrossan South Beach in Ayrshire, Scotland, holds a nostalgic place in the town’s coastal heritage. Originally established as an 18-hole concrete course, it was a popular attraction for both locals and visitors. However, by the mid-1980s, the course had fallen into disrepair and remained unused for several decades.

In recent years, the Ardrossan Community Development Trust (ACDT) has undertaken efforts to revitalise the area. As part of a broader regeneration project for the South Beach promenade, plans were set in motion to restore the crazy golf course. The restoration involved repairing the cement structures, removing accumulated dirt and old paint, and applying a new screed and vibrant, durable paint finish. Additionally, the design includes the installation of 2.4-metre brightly coloured flagpoles to enhance the visual appeal of the course .

The ongoing restoration of the crazy golf course is a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving and enhancing Ardrossan’s coastal charm for future generations.
Phase 1 Launch

The project is being executed in phases. Phase 1 focuses on the physical restoration of the course, while Phase 2 aims to incorporate bronze plaques at each hole, commemorating local historical figures and events. These additions are intended to celebrate Ardrossan’s rich heritage and provide an educational aspect to the recreational facility.

The restored crazy golf course is set to be managed from a service area located at the rear of the new community hub, where visitors can hire putters and golf balls. This initiative not only aims to revive a cherished local attraction but also to foster community engagement and tourism in Ardrossan.

A New Chapter Begins: Crazy Golf Relaunch Event

Following a heartfelt restoration effort that has brought new life to a cherished piece of Ardrossan’s seaside past, the South Beach Crazy Golf course is officially set to relaunch on Friday 6th June at 11am. The celebratory event will take place at the newly revitalised Hub On The Prom, marking an exciting new chapter for this much-loved local attraction.

The reopening will be celebrated in true community spirit. Children from St. Peters Primary School will be attending the event, helping to reconnect a new generation with the fun and nostalgia of the promenade’s golden days. While they plan a growing space at the Beach Huts. Their presence symbolises the project’s commitment not just to heritage, but to future memories and community togetherness.

In attendance will also be North Ayrshire Provost, who will be playing the first hole, along with three local councillors, Councillor Kerr, Councillor Ferguson and Councillor Gurney underscoring the value of this redevelopment to the wider community and the council’s support for grassroots regeneration projects like this.

The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald will send a photographer (Charlie Gilmour) and the Beach House Cafe will supply tea, coffee, soup, and a finger buffet.

We will also have some pupils down from St Peters Primary School, who are down to plan a growing space at the Beach Huts and they will be able to play a game of golf at the same time of the provost is here.

The relaunch marks the beginning of a new era for Ardrossan’s seafront, where a historic mini golf course, once faded and forgotten, now stands vibrant and welcoming once again.

Making Ardrossan a Vibrant Seaside Destination

For those interested in the history of the area, it’s worth noting that the South Beach promenade was once home to the Arranview Amusements, which included facilities like go-karting and the original crazy golf course. These attractions were significant in making Ardrossan a vibrant seaside destination in the past .
