Ardrossan Community Development Trust (ACDT) is delighted to announce that the Ardrossan South Beach Community Space project – which includes The HUB on the PROM and the South Beach Play Park extension – has been shortlisted for the 2025 SURF Awards in the category Improving Scotland’s Places.
We are honoured to be recognised alongside:
- The Two Towns Big Ideas – Banff & Macduff (Aberdeenshire)
- Kenmore District Revitalisation (Perth & Kinross)
This shortlisting is a fantastic recognition of the hard work and commitment of Ardrossan’s communities, who have come together to improve our town, provide services locally, and create spaces that meet the needs of everyone.

The South Beach Community Space is already delivering real benefits and includes:
- The HUB on the PROM, with:
- The Beach House Café
- A community hub/kiosk providing free activities such as:
- 18-hole crazy golf (with free equipment hire)
- Free hire of disability wheelers and deckchairs
- Community information and support
- A Changing Places Toilet
- Four commercial beach huts
- A 20-place bike shed with charging for e-bikes
- An event space hosting fun fairs and community events
- The Accessible Play Park, designed so that all children can play, with:

- A children’s maze
Beyond these facilities, the South Beach Community Space acts as a catalyst for wider regeneration. It supports continued development along Ardrossan Promenade and town centre, encouraging investment, improvements, and new opportunities for local people.
About the SURF Awards
The SURF Awards have celebrated successful regeneration projects across Scotland since 1998. This year’s finalists represent a diverse range of place-making initiatives, employability projects, and community-led activities from both urban and rural areas.
Category winners will be announced by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Gaelic, Kate Forbes, at the SURF Awards Presentation Dinner on Thursday 4 December 2025 at Glasgow’s Voco Grand Central Hotel.
The awards are delivered by SURF in partnership with the Scottish Government, supported by Creative Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scotland’s Towns Partnership, Scottish Procurement Alliance, and South of Scotland Enterprise.
Thank You to Our Community
This shortlisting is not just an achievement for ACDT – it is a recognition of the energy, ideas, and determination of Ardrossan’s community. From volunteers and local organisations to businesses, families, and individuals, every contribution has helped make the South Beach Community Space a success.
We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far – through time, funding, or by simply using and enjoying the space. This recognition belongs to the whole community.
Whatever the outcome in December, we are proud of what we have achieved together and excited about the future of Ardrossan.
If you haven’t already, come along and visit the HUB on the PROM and the South Beach Play Park – enjoy the facilities, take part in activities, and see for yourself the difference your community has created.
